The Hardy Way, devised by Margaret Marande, extends across over 200 miles of Wessex, the heart of Hardy Country. The route begins at the author’s birthplace at Higher Bockhampton, takes in Shaftesbury, edges into Wiltshire, and returns by way of Bridport and Portland to Stinsford in whose churchyard Hardy’s heart is buried.
The route passes through Marnhull Parish entering from the B3092 at Todber (opposite Shave Lane) and leaving south of Mowes Lane to join the Stour Valley Way to Sturminster. It takes in a number of the key locations in ‘Marlott’ which form the basis of Marnhull’s Hardy Trail.
